He attended Junior High School in Floral Park, New York, where he met his future wife Aisha Murray and they graduated in 1991. They attended Martin Van Buren High School together but he did not graduate. When Atkins was five years old, his sister died from respiratory problems. Growing up in a strict religious home, Atkin’s family did not celebrate birthdays and Christmas, and as a child, was not allowed to listen to rap music. When he first heard it, he decided to be a rapper. He would sneak the music into his house and played it on his CD player when his mother wasn’t around. Atkins is married to his high school sweetheart, Aisha Atkins née Murray. They have three children: Brittney (11), Jeffrey Junior (6) and Jordan (3).He and his family live in a mansion in New Jersey.

Rise to Fame

At age 15, Atkins appeared with 0-1 and Chris Black as part of Cash Money Click. This would lead to him being signed by TVT Records. He would end up being heard by a young DJ who called himself DJ Irv, then later Irv Gotti. Gotti, was a friend of Jay-Z’s and he was also a DJ for Def Jam Recordings. During the mid 90s his main priority was meeting Ja Rule. He wanted to sign Ja to his new label Murder Inc. Records. He wanted Ja because of his distinct deep voice. After Irv was able to sign Ja along with DMX and Jay-Z to Def Jam. He beagn to have an idea that they all work together. They formed a group named The Murderers. They recorded many songs together. Friction tore the group apart, DMX, a rapper that sounds very similar to Ja accused him of trying to steal his style with the deep voice, by saying that before the three were signed Ja tried to make his voice sound lighter but heard him embrace the deep voice and tried to imitate it. They had planned to release an album together, but this idea was scrapped and they all made appearances on their respective albums. Still, around this time, Ja Rule was still fairly unknown. Jay-Z, at the time a young star and new to Def Jam, was the most popular rapper in hip hop. Russell Simmons had the idea that in order to build hype around Ja Rule and capitalize on Jay’s popularity that Ja Rule do a verse on Jay-Z’s 1998 single Can I Get A…, which also featured Amil. Ja’s performance of the verse made him a household name and he became an instant star and by the release of his album a year later he was one of Def Jam Recordings premier acts.

Venni Vetti Vecci (1999)

In 1999, Ja Rule released his debut album Venni Vetti Vecci on Murder Inc./Def Jam. The album featured summer smash “Holla Holla”. That single would propel the album to a platinum certification. His album featured appearances from Jay-Z, DMX, Memphis Bleek, and Ronald Isley.

In 2000, Atkins was also featured on Irv Gotti’s successful album, Irv Gotti Presents: The Murderers, which featured other Murder Inc. record label artists as well as DMX, Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes.

Rule 3:36 (2000)

In 2000 Atkins released Rule 3:36, his second album. The first released single was “Between Me & You” featuring Christina Milian, which proved to be a hit and was followed by another successful single, “Put It On Me” featuring Lil’ Mo and Vita. The album received an unexpected level of support, and went on to go triple platinum. By this time Ja Rule was even more popular than Jay-Z and made an appearance on LL Cool J’s G.O.A.T. album.

Pain Is Love (2001)

On October 2, 2001, Atkins released his third album, Pain Is Love. The first single, “Livin’ It Up”, was another hit. It featured guest vocals by R&B singer Case and sampled Stevie Wonder’s “Do I Do”. The follow up single, “Always On Time”, was released in December of the same year and was yet another success. The song introduced the public to singer Ashanti, who performed the chorus. The album also featured the successful remix “I’m Real” with Jennifer Lopez. Finally, the album included the song “So Much Pain”, a tribute to Tupac Shakur, and also went on to become triple platinum.

Due to the additon of Ashanti, Lil Mo ended her relationship with Murder In

Ja Rule feat. Jadakiss & Fat Joe – New York
[Ja Rule:]
I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I’m from New York (New York)
I got a semi-automatic that spits next time if you talk (you talk)
I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I’m from New York (New York)
I got a semi-automatic that spits next time if you talk (you talk)
(And I know)

Yall niggaz is pussy, poonani, (Vagina)
Your (Monologue’s) getting tired, now it’s time to ride
You’re print distrified, you’re no longer desired
So take off them silly chains, put back on your wire
I’m on fire, holly dipped in octane
Let east coast bang, let west coast bang
And Rule gonna bring the ghetto gospel
To every ‘hood possible, pushin through in the sky blue
Back with the gods you now, preferably the 4 pound
Slugs flyin at the speed of sound
Tryin to catch the ears of niggaz that’s runnin their mouths
I might get my Brooklyn niggaz to run in your house
I don’t really understand what the runnin’s about
But we’re hunters, we take pride in airin our prey out
Leavin ‘em layed out, dead, in just a sport
’cause we ain’t playin up here in New York

[Fat Joe:]
I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I’m from New York (New York)
And you can tell the way the homie spit, That nigga, I’m from New York (bx bx)
I got a hundred ways to make a grip, Yes, I’m from New York (New York)
And you can tell I get real ignorant, ’cause nigga, I’m from New York (New York)

(And this is how we do)

Nigga I can see the coke in your nose
This ain’t a movie, even he got his head blown on the globe
And I was just about to find god
But now that Ma$e is back, I think I’d much rather find a menage
And everybody talkin crazy how they’re AK spit
But we know this investigatin, and they ain’t spray shit
Not me, I’m the truth homie, got the industry shook like
“Naw nigga, Joe gonna let ‘em loose on me”
True Story, I’m bringin the T back
Even Roy Jones was forced to (Lean Back)
My nigga Dre said grind cook
Now we killin them Howard niggaz, who said I must of found Pun’s rhyme book
Got bitches on top of the Phantom
And the pinky got bling, like the ring around Saturn
Cook coke, crack, niggaz fiend for that
And you already know the x is where the team be at

[Jadakiss:]
I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I’m from New York (New York)
(Ruff Ryde), and (D-Blockin’) and shit, Nigga fuck what you thought (you thought)
And you can’t take shit for granted, because life is too short (too short)
I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I’m from New York

(Aha, and this is how we do)

I swear it couldn’t be sweeter, Life’s a bitch
Depending on how you treat her, you might get rich
It’s guaranteed you gonna die, you might get missed
For maybe 2 or 3 hours, ’til they light their spliffs
And that coke will get you a long time
But when I let ‘em know the dope is out, it’s like America Online
Wise has awoken
And you know they say that you deserved it whenever you die with your eyes open
I still hold a title, because I’m in the hood like them low motorcycles
Stick up kids, hoppin out with them old rifles
Just doin shit for nothin, it’s so spiteful
Ha I’m just like you
Word that niggaz wanna murk you is in the air
A double shot of yak and the purple is in the air
And I’m not cocky, I’m confident
So when you tell me I’m the best it’s a compliment (Aha)

I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I’m from New York (New York)
Ruff Ryder, D- Block and shit, Nigga fuck what you thought (you thought)
And you cant take shit for granted coz life is too short (too short)
Got a hundred guns a hundred clips, Nigga I’m from New York (Aha)
And this is how we do.

Songtext:

[Chorus 1: Sakura]
All the memories of hate
And the lies
Don’t you know eventually we pay the price
All my hopes and the dreams will survie
Realize, we got to keep the faith alive

[TUPAC Verse]
Time to question our lifestyle, look how we live
Smokin weed like it ain’t no thang, so even kids
wanna try now, they lie down and get ran through
Nobody watched ‘em clockin the evil man do
Faced with the demons, addicted to hearin victims screamin
Guess we was evil since birth, product of cursed semens
Cause even our birthdays is cursed days
A born thug in the first place, the worst ways
I’d love to see the block in peace
With no more dealers and crooked cops, the only way to stop the beast
And only we can change
It’s up to us to clean up the streets, it ain’t the same
Too many murders, too many funerals and too many tears
Just seen another brother buried plus I knew him for years
Passed by his family, but what could I say?
Keep yo’ head up and try to keep the faith
And pray for better days

[Tasha Verse]
Damn
How did we get here?
We’re living in fear
How history repeats itself, can never steer clear
Cries for help, ringing my ear from the sheer terror of it all
I shed a tear, can’t disappear, sometimes I wish the end was near
But
Back to reality, where
Life still exist, we’re
Still on this earth, but we got shackles on the wrist
Must be the reason why you never start to even lend a hand
Too caught up in your ways for you to try to understand

[Chorus 2: Sakura]
All the memories of hate
And the lies
Don’t you know eventually we pay the price
All my hopes and dreams, they seem so far away
I’m a sing a song and pray for better days

[TUPAC Verse]
Now me and you was real cool, hell on them square fools
Since back in high school, we was true, me and you
Hardly parted or seperated, we stayed faded
Affiliated with gangbangers and still made it
Up in the gym, mess with me, gotta mess with him
Still dressin like grown men when rollin
I went to dark, smokin Newports, gamin marks
Got a place in my heart, homey stay smart
Locked you up in the pen, and gave you three to ten
I send you letters with naked flicks of old friends
Hopin you well, I know it’s hell
Doin time in the cells, you need mail, when you in jail

[Tasha Verse]
So there you have it, my whole life with all this memories
I’m trying to figure out
How to set all of my pain free
Sometimes, I wish that I can turn the hands of time back
So I could
Rewrite the wrong and put my life back on the right track
Wake up to reality, trying to accept the way it is
They say that life’s not what you take, it’s your willingness to give
That’s why I wrote this song in hopes to heal the pain within
Cause after that, I know that’s when my life truly begins

[Chorus 1: Sakura]
All the memories of hate
And the lies
Don’t you know eventually we pay the price
All my hopes and the dreams will survie
Realize, we got to keep the faith alive

[Tasha Verse]
Imprinted in our minds, from the minute we were born, with
Misconceptions of life, that’s how our lives get torn
I say we wake up from this dream and let the sunlight in
So we can help each other heal the pain within

TUPAC Speaks

[Chorus 2: Sakura]
All the memories of hate
And the lies
Don’t you know eventually we pay the price
All my hopes and dreams, they seem so far away
I’m a sing a song and pray for better days

Snoop Knows who killed Tupac

The events leading up to September 7, 1996, the tragic day Tupac was shot are as controversial as the shooting itself. It was said that there were some problems between DeathrowÂ’s lawyer and SugeÂ’s right hand man, David Kenner and Tupac. On August 26th, 12 days before Tupac was shot, he was on the set all day and at the studio all night. On the 27th, he sent Yaasmyn Fula, who managed his business affairs, to the studio to get tapes of what he was done. Deathrow would not allow her access to the tapes as David Kenner, DeathrowÂ’s lawyer and SugeÂ’s right hand man, denied her the tapes. ItÂ’s rumored that Tupac had Yaasmyn write Deathrow a letter saying that Tupac had finished his last album and would be leaving Deathrow. Tupac later went back to LA, and although he wanted to go to Atlanta to visit relatives, Suge convinced Tupac to go to the Tyson/Seldon fight in Las Vegas as he had promised. The Tyson vs. Seldon boxing match was held Saturday, September 7, 1996. Tupac and Suge sat up front and Tupac cheered Tyson on as he had done so many times before. The fight lasted only 109 seconds. While walking through the lobby of the MGM grand after the fight the entourage noticed Orlando Anderson. In a prior incident in a Lakewood Mall, Orlando Anderson stole Travon LaneÂ’s Death Row medallion that happened to be a personal give from Suge Knight. Tupac stepped up to Orlando and said “You from the south?” Tupac then punched him in the face knocking him on the ground, after which Suge and the Deathrow entourage proceeded to beat him. Rumors surrounding the shooting have OrlandoÂ’s Anderson with Jerry Bonds driving the white Cadillac while Dwayne Keith Davis (Keefee D) was the shooter. An article in Details magazine stated that Orlando and his brother wanted to start a studio, but didnÂ’t have the resources. Allegedly after the shooting they came into some money, and the possibility of a pay off for some role in the shooting is possible. Anderson, an alleged crip who claims heÂ’s not affiliated, also denied the shooting and stated he was a possible scapegoat. He was shot 2 years later in an incident outside a car wash.

A late-model Cadillac with four men inside pulled up directly to the right of the BMW and sprayed 13 rounds into the car. Police reported that a .45 was shot, but itÂ’s believed that information was withheld to identify the real shooter; apparently a .9mm was used. Tupac saw it going down and tried to jump into the back seat. He was hit twice, one bullet hit him his leg and ricocheted up into his lung. Suge was hit in the head with a piece of shrapnel. There were reports that gunfire was returned, but this has been debated and has not been verified completely. The Cadillac turned right onto Koval Lane and vanished. Some cars in the entourage tried to follow the Cadillac but it seemingly disappeared.
